Asylum Seekers to be Housed in the Centre of Waterlooville

We understand that the Home Office is planning to house asylum seekers in accommodation located on London Road, Waterlooville. This is shocking and unacceptable news for local residents but what is more shocking is how we arrived at this position.

It seems that in June the Home Office notified Labour led Havant Borough Council of the proposal yet no action was taken. Councillors were not made aware collectively and no response highlighting the unsuitability of the premises and the potential safety issues for local residents and our children was issued.

Havant Borough Council has an obligation to act in the best interests of its residents yet this issue was cynically ignored. Equally we consider it unacceptable for matters such as this to be kept under wraps and not shared with all elected officials.

This is an appalling betrayal and one that needs to be confronted by everyone who values our community regardless of political persuasion. Our sitting MP, Suella Braverman, has launched a petition and we strongly recommend that we show a united front by completing it at: https://www.suellabraverman.co.uk/campaigns/petition-stop-plans-home-illegal-migrants-waterlooville
